Educational Center
The Educational Centre has been established by the “You are not alone” children’ charity, aiming to insure social support of children from Uzbek Mercy Houses for orphan children, through providing social and pedagogic education. The Centre is a key priority direction of the charity’s activities, representing a bridge to specialized high schools (lyceums and colleges) and universities for children from orphanages and unfavorable/poor families.
It is called to provide additional education for orphan children and those from poor families to develop their abilities, skills and educational capacities. Assistance in choosing future profession and preparation for entry exams to secondary specialized and higher education institutions is one of the most important directions of the Center’s activities.
The classes held at the Educational Centre include mathematics, chemistry, IT and English. As well, children are taught to a history of Uzbek culture and traditions, acquainted with the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child and a Law Act of Uzbekistan “On the Guarantees of a Child’s Rights”. Lessons with the Centre psychologist are among the children’ favorite ones.
At the Centre children also attend debate club and media centre, as well as lessons on drama, modern and national dances, vocal and drawing. Children often participate in several exhibitions and competitions.
The charity seeks not only to promote better education for children of vulnerable groups, but also their well integration into so-called normal life, helping to create better future. The action plans to prepare leavers of orphanages for entering colleges or universities are annually developed for each child.
Thanks to the work done by “You are not alone” charity and its Educational Centre, as of 2009 over 200 children from Mercy Houses, since 2004, became university students. These children are from all over the country. They had chosen big variety of professions for their future life.
Kenjaev Bunyod from Samarqand studied in art studio at the Educational Center. After this, he had successfully finished Tashkent State Art College and entered to Tashkent State Institute of Art and Design. Igor Danilov, having obtained secondary education at the lyceum of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, today is a student of the subsidiary of Moscow State University in Tashkent to become psychologist. Graduates from Samarqand, Syrdarya, Surkhandarya region orphanages will become linguists. Children from Margilan are currently studying State Institute of Eastern Studies. Many orphan children today choose new profession fro our country – Social Worker, because they had experienced themselves the need of being guided by professional person in social sphere.
There are a lot of such stories and all of these children had obtained at the Educational Center additional education, assistance and support in choosing future profession, and what is more important – they understood that they are not alone, that many people care about their future and that they can do much to influence it. Many of them became holders of the scholarships of the charity.
